REMINDER: Disney Infinity’s Marvel Battlegrounds Play Set is Local Multiplayer Only

With the news of Marvel Battlegrounds, I’ve received a lot of questions, and wanted to make a post dedicated to answer a question I get a lot.

Is there online Multiplayer for Marvel Battlegrounds? No.

As is the (current) standard with all Disney Infinity Play Sets, there will be no online functionality.

This is reiterated on Disney Infinity’s website:

Battle up to 3 opponents in the arena with 4-person local multiplayer

So you can only battle against 3 other people on your own console. As previously reported, each player will just take a turn scanning in their figure, no second base required.

Obviously this is a play set, so you will still have the same functionality as a standard play set. The common assumtion is that there will be AI to fight against as well, but this has not been officially confirmed.

Is this a bummer? Sure! Is this a surprise? Absolutely not.

Obviously everyone would love to play this really fun mode online, but again we knew this was going to be the case going into it.

And again, I’d much rather them finalize the game than trying to implement an online function that may or may not work (see Flynn’s Arcade).

Marvel Battlegrounds is set for release on March 15th.
