Disney Infinity is ‘Absolutely Interested’ In The Virtual Reality Space; Hololens Likely Landing Spot

Here is an interesting quote from John Blackburn with the team from Engadget…

But yes, we’re absolutely interested in that space [Virtual Reality] because the toybox itself is kind of a very interesting concept of ‘I’m in the world I built.’

How awesome would it be to explore the world of Disney Infinity, a world that you built in the Toy Box, in a virtual reality landscape.

The virtual reality space has become quite crowded with many competitors coming in with their own unique take: Oculus Rift, Sony’s Project Morpheus, Microsoft Hololens, Steam/HTC’s model, etc.

John Vignocchi said of the competitors: “We’ve had multiple meetings and discussions with Oculus; multiple meetings and discussions with Sony about Morpheus; multiple meetings and discussions with Microsoft about HoloLens. We’re very interested in that space. There’s the socialization problem right now with VR, but augmented reality is very exciting.”

Blackburn continues to show the competing narrative between the goal behind Disney Infinity and that of many of the virtual reality helmets. Disney Infinity enjoys that ‘famly experience’. Many people in a room interacting with each other, so requiring everyone to have a helmet would ruin that experience.

With Microsoft Hololens, it’s an augmented reality, so you are just manipulating what you see in the real world. So your family could still be operating in the same fashion as before, but you could use the Oculus Rift to get a better angle or closer look. Just as shown in the hugely popular E3 demo of the product this year with Minecraft.
