So now that we are starting to get information regarding the release of Disney Infinity 3.0, many of you are starting to ask the question about whether you will need a new base.
As always with Disney Infinity: yes and no.
First off, I have confirmed that Disney will be releasing a digital version of Disney Infinity 3.0.
So yes you will be able to keep your old base.
In the UK/Ireland area however, Disney will be releasing a Software only version that will be released in stores.
In addition, fans in UK and Ireland who already own a Disney Infinity 1.0 or 2.0 Starter Pack will be able to purchase just the Disney Infinity 3.0 Video Game Software Disc and use the base they already own if playing on a base compatible* console. Featuring the Disney Infinity 3.0 Toy Box, the Disney Infinity 3.0 Video Game Software Disc will also be available to purchase with the Star Wars(tm): Twilight of the Republic Play Set as a special promotional offer at participating UK retailers.
So in the U.S., if you don’t want to have to purchase a new base or starter pack, you will be able to purchase a digital option, but there will not be a software only release.
In the U.K. you will be able to able to purchase a software only option in-stores, and I’d imagine a digital release as well, though that is not clear yet.
