Final Two Disney Infinity ‘Disney Originals’ Figures To Be “Delivered Digitally”

(UPDATED #1: There will be figures for the digitally delivered characters! Scroll to the bottom of the story to learn more…)

In an interview today with ComicBook.com, we got the news…

CB: So if the call came down now, you picked up the phone and it was Mickey Mouse on the other end and he demanded that Dopey the Dwarf join the game as a playable character, what sort of turnaround time would you need?

JV: It really depends. It goes back to your original character, where I think you were asking, really, “Are you planning on delivering content digitally and can you do that?” and the answer is, “Yes, the system is designed to do that.” Do we plan on doing that? Well, I think this year you’ll see our first two characters delivered digitally, two Disney characters that we have not yet announced.
But as time goes on, the answer is yes. If we get an itch or a strong request from fans that we potentially didn’t foresee including in the platform during the course of development, we will be able to make that as an additional figure and introduce that character to the game digitally.
To make the physical mould, the physical game piece itself, the figure, that takes considerably longer. At minimum you’re looking at eight to ten months to make one of those figures.

So there you have it. You can stop looking through the disc, hall of heroes, etc. You won’t find any information.

Now let’s be clear, this does not mean that there won’t be actual ‘physical’ figures coming. But the way I interpret John Vignocchi’s statement, these look like they may be ‘digital’ figures.

But to not give everyone fully discouraged, Chris Glass has been digging through the disc files and said he did find evidence of DLC on the disc.

So although it says ‘toy’ compared to normally being called ‘figure’, that could be a good sign that there may be figures as well.

UPDATE #1: Jose Abalos (Associate Level Designer, Community at Avalanche Software) did confirm on DisneyInfinityFans.com forum that there will indeed be figures coming for these ‘digitally delivered’ characters.

So what this means is that there will be figures released at retail, but in order to use the characters you will have to have your Disney Infinity software updated to include the characters in the game. We’ll have to see how that all pans out.
